Agreement Signed for the Establishment of a 10-ton Ice Plant and a 20-ton Ice Storage Facility in Laamu Maavah

An agreement was signed today between the ministry and Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) to establish a 10-tonne ice plant in L. Maavah. The facility, which will include 20 - tonne ice storage units, is set to enhance the efficiency of local fishing operations.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed during a ceremony attended by His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who also met residents of L. Maavah to discuss community developments.

Minister Ahmed Shiyam signed on behalf of the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, And Mohamed Shameem, Manager of MIFCO’s Project Unit, signed on behalf of the company.

The collaboration aims to provide fishermen, particularly those engaged in reef fishing, with greater ease and improved resources. Once operational, the new ice plant is expected to benefit fishermen by ensuring a reliable supply of ice to preserve their daily catches, thereby contributing to overall fish quality and marketability.
